Need advice regarding sound testing? Acoustics Plus offers a competitively priced service to undertake sound testing and all related sound testing matters. Our experience of sound testing provides a fast and reliable service to the house building industry to demonstrate that a separating party floor or wall construction has met with minimum standards.

Our sound testing experience determines if a construction that separates one habitable room from another (in separate dwellings) meets with the minimum requirements as set out in Approved Document E of the Building Regulations. The sound testing requirements are set out clearly in Approved Document E of the current Building Regulations.

When appointed, Acoustics Plus will perform the sound testing in accordance with the requirements. The sound testing consists of two separate tests. The first part of the sound testing measures the constructions resistance to the passage of impact sound. This is achieved by placing a tapping machine on the floor of the specimen under test and measuring the level in the receive room underneath. The second part of the sound testing measures the constructions resistance to the passage of airborne sound. This is achieved by placing a known steady source of noise on one side of the wall or floor, and measuring the amount transmitted to the neighbouring room to determine how much noise the wall or floor resists.

Before the sound testing can be carried out, the building should be essentially complete, with doors and windows in place. This will ensure that the sound testing is only measuring the construction under test.

Under the newly revised Building Regulations, sound testing can be avoided if a Robust Standard Detail (RSD) has been used. RSDs are high performance constructions that are capable of providing consistently good sound insulation, and so should not need the check provided by sound testing.
