Celtic Park is a football stadium in the Parkhead area of Glasgow and is the home ground of Celtic Football Club. Celtic Park, an all-seater stadium with a capacity of 60,411, is the largest football stadium in Scotland and the sixth-largest stadium in the United Kingdom. Acoustics Plus were instructed to design a new PA/VA system for the four main stands. Initially, Acoustics Plus conducted noise assessment using acoustic measurements (crowd noise levels) during a capacity-crowd match (Celtic vs Inter Milan). It identified that crowd noise sound pressure level (SPL) can consistently reach 100dBA for at least 10% of the measured period and can reach 115dBA during goal celebrations!
Utilising specialist CAD tools and acoustic modelling software and 3D model of the stadium was constructed and a number of loudspeaker layout options were modelled to determine what would provide the optimum coverage and intelligibility. Due to the required sound pressure levels to be achieved and the height of the roof structure, a line array solution was discounted early on in the design process.
The full range solution utilised EVF and EVH speakers by Electro Voice. The EVH series is a dedicated installed sound solution delivering exceptional value in venues of all sizes. These mid-sized 15-inch two-way cabinets feature a unique coaxial horn loaded design that is unmatched for pattern control and intelligibility in reverberant environments. EVF is a series of front-loaded loudspeaker systems offered for installed sound. Available in 12" or 15" two-way configurations, and enhanced with dedicated low-frequency systems, EVF loudspeakers match exceptional audio performance, efficiency, ease-of-use, and aesthetics with unprecedented value.
