Sony Computer Entertainment Europe HQ

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's new headquarters were created from two out-dated 1980s’ buildings and given a fresh interior by architects MoreySmith. The buildings were linked with the space between them covered to create a new atrium and café.

Acoustics Plus were contracted by SCEE to provide acoustic design advice prior to the buildings' transformation.

The brief

Sony needed to be confident that privacy would be maintained within its meeting rooms and that speech intelligibility would be good within these rooms – particularly important for international video conferences.

We were asked to:

  • Provide a performance design for the board room separating partition to ensure sufficient sound insulation with adjacent spaces and speech intelligibility within the room
  • Provide a performance design for work areas and meeting room partitions to ensure sufficient sound insulation with adjacent spaces and speech intelligibility within rooms
  • Review the landlord’s requirements for acoustic separation with adjacent buildings and provide a scheme of works to satisfy the performance requirements.

The results

  • Sound insulation for the new headquarters met the performance requirements specified in the acoustic design and in the landlord’s specification.
  • Based on the success of our work we were awarded a similar contract for Sony BMG’s new offices in Kensington.
