Sony BMG – 99 Kensington High Street

Sony music’s new offices are within a Grade II listed building and include a new atrium spanning the third and fourth floors to showcase live performances by artists.

We were contracted by Sony BMG to provide acoustic design advice prior to the transformation of the building. The building is of mixed use with existing tenants below Sony.

The brief

Sony BMG needed to be confident that privacy would be maintained within its offices and meeting rooms, and that Sony’s live performance area and day-to-day business activities would not disturb other building tenants. We were asked to:

  • Provide a performance design for the board room separating partition to ensure sufficient sound insulation with adjacent spaces and speech intelligibility within the room
  • Provide a performance design for office and meeting room partitions to ensure sufficient sound insulation with adjacent spaces and speech intelligibility within rooms
  • Review the landlord’s requirements for acoustic separation with tenants above and below and provide a scheme of works to satisfy the requirements.

The results

  • Sound insulation within Sony’s offices met the performance requirements specified in the acoustic design.
  • Sound insulation between Sony’s offices and other building tenants met the landlord’s performance specification
